Epsom salts are comprised of the compound magnesium sulfate. Magnesium sulfate provides both magnesium and sulfate to the body which are both important minerals in the body and necessary for normal body function. It is hard to absorb these minerals through the digestive tract, but both are easily absorbed through the skin. An Epsom salt bath can calm the nervous system and lower stress, benefiting the endocrine system. Epsom salt baths can alleviate aches, pains and muscle tension within the body, reduce inflammation, and assist with detoxification.
Most of us are mineral deficient and our magnesium levels are too low. Magnesium helps to regulate over 325 enzymes in our body and is involved in many of our body functions, such as energy production and muscle control, as well as helping the body to eliminate harmful toxins. Magnesium is needed for over 300 biochemical reactions and plays an important role in nerve function.
